Enhanced Viewfinders Essential Gear

One of the questions I get asked a lot is whether or not enhanced viewfinders are worth the money. Without hesitation my answer is always the same, yes! The image you get from an enhanced viewfinder is so much larger and brighter I can’t imagine using a DSLR housing without one. You can see the tiny details for critical focus and composition becomes much easier when you can see the edges of your entire frame. Many mirrorless cameras with EVFs can also take advantage of enhanced viewfinders.
Enhanced viewfinders come in two main types, 180º straight finders and 45º angled finders. I recommend a little practice with either of them on land so that you can use them comfortably underwater. I personally use a 180º finder but 45º finders are just as popular, especially with macro photographers shooting close to the bottom. The 45º finders swivel so you can go from shooting horizontals to verticals with a simple twist of the viewfinder.
Samy’s Camera carries a full line of enhanced viewfinders including Aquatica 180º, Aquatica 45º, Nauticam 180º, Nauticam 45º, Sea & Sea180º and Sea & Sea 45º. Nauticam also makes a number of adapters allowing their finders to be used on other manufacturers housings. Whether you choose a 180º or a 45º viewfinder, I’m sure you will be happy with your purchase.
